city heat & heartbeat
30 August 2005
a series of sonifications (sounds generated from time-varying data values) that illustrate the average temperature fluctuations in New York city as calculated by some climate model predictions. the maximum temperatures of the summers of four decades (1990, 2020, 2050 & 2080s) are translated into the pitch, loudness & speed of sound, to 'understand the data in a new way'. listen also to heart songs for another interesting data sonification which claims that normal people can recognize the difference between healthy & unhealthy heartbeats through physiologic data transformed in piano notes.
