the image & meaning initiative's purpose is 'to help scientists, writers & visual communicators develop & share improved methods of communicating scientific concepts & technical information through images & visual representations linked to appropriate text. the goal is to enhance the level of discourse within the scientific community, among teachers & those who communicate with the public through the mass media.' for those who, like me, missed the 2001 & 2005 conferences, there are still a few interesting visual examples online.
