feelspace tactile compass
25 October 2005
as an example of ubiqitous & tactile visualization, this wearable belt enables its user to continuously feel her orientation in space via vibro-tactile stimulation. a sensory belt is equipped with a set of vibrators controlled by an electronic compass: the element pointing north is always slightly vibrating. that way, the person wearing the belt perceives permanent input about her current heading relative to the earth's magnetic field. see also tactile data visualization for sports & haptic shoes visualizing the stock market.
