information aesthetics

an interactive data visualization of the social networks of livejournal members. the friends & 'friends of friends' of any member are displayed around their personalized icons (sorted into 'cliques'), their interconnections amongst themselves are shown by curves, & any of their friends not already in the primary ellipse are placed in 'parabolas' further out from them (repeated 2nd degree friends are repeated in multiple parabolas). its purpose is described as: 'LJNet is much faster to navigate between users, visual information is easier to parse, & most importantly, one can see patterns across the entire network'. see also the vizster project.
