word up elevator data flow

8 March 2006

wordup.jpgan electronic light sculpture consisting of a matrix of LED tubes on the outer surfaces of each of two elevator cabs of a large public library in Minneapolis. as the cabs ride up & down an inner atrium, the LED displays will reveal, letter by letter, the titles of books being checked out by library patrons. the climbing & descending book titles seem to evoke the idea that library patrons have become part of a giant reading machine: the LED signs will "scan as if they were text hanging in the air."

I might be fooled by the movie, but I hope they made the scrolling speed of the elevator screen EXACTLY opposite of the elevator speed. For now, the letters look going upwards rather than just hanging there.

En ascensores buscamos el mejor presupuesto, gestionamos y ajustamos los costes de instalación y mantenimiento de toda clase de aparatos elevadores o ascensor.

There's a little video and some images on this page.
