govcom social data visualization
7 July 2006

a large collection of beautiful & interesting data visualizations focusing on important contemporary social issues. the representations depict various areas such as networks (e.g. mapping the political blogosphere, gender violence, or HIV outbreak in Russia), news analysis (e.g. which stories are 'not' told about Burma, North Korea?), & semantic analysis (e.g. keyword analysis of speeches, comparing online newspapers).
some interesting examples: a Conflict Analysis of the usage, in official & unofficial sources, of 'security fence,' 'apartheid wall,' & other terms for the structure between Israel & the Palestinian Territories, a co-link network diagram depicting censored Iranian websites, & a linkage map of the online players in the discussion about climate change.
why did I not find this earlier?
