suspendedcar.jpg
a collection of 3200 individual parts that make up a real Honda Racing F1 car, suspended in air on fine wires, just like an infographical, 3D exploded diagram. as a combination of engineering & sculpture, the resulting installation allows race fans to get closer to the engineering secrets of one of the world's most technically-advanced sports.

As someone with a vague interest in infographics and design installations ...and a massive F1 fan...

I was totally impressed with this installation when I saw it at the British Motor Show here in London.

I've taken loads of photos on Flickr and also a video on YouTube.

for those interested: Piotr informed me that Damian Ortega did an art installation of an exploded VW Beetle, online here.

exploded stage coach in Berlin, Germany, installation by Stefan Sous (Java/iPIX Plugin)

It is disappointing to see a plagiarised idea getting so much interest. Stefan Sous has been creating exploded suspended cars and other objects since 1992. See "taxi", "explosion" , " berliner luftpost", "buffet déplacé" for example at www.stefansous.com. Sadly his original idea has already been famously plagiarised by Damian Ortega.

I would hardly call following in the same movement plagiarism. If that were so, painting styles, sculpting styles of artists of the same school of thought would be plagiarism as well. So is it plagiarism? I think not. Is it original for Ortega? Likely not also. But did Sous "explode" the same F1 racer.

A Quote from Wikipedia on plagiarism: "Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism) Paul Veroude is doing excactly that, he is a shameless person and a thief. His "view suspended" is a close imitation (a very good one indeed, that is why he gets so much attention for it) of Stefan Sous work. You can not compare an original work of art (in this case a sculpture) with a painting style and Veroude is not following in the same movement, he is copying !!!
