paint by number photographs
19 October 2006

several interesting visual translations of digital photographic data into other systems. in 'paint-by-number', each pixel is labeled with a numeric code. bigger boxes emerge where 2 or more adjacent pixels are the same color, revealing how digital images are digitally compressed & stored. in 'first lines', a visual timeline of photographs taken over two months is created. the concept is similar to recalling texts: a reader might not always recall the title or author of a poem, but is likely to remember how it begins.
