protein synthesis people chains

2 November 2006

an incredible movie that symbolically portrays, in a "dynamic & joyful way", the linking together of amino-acids to form a protein. people represent molecules, who use trippy dances to animate the programming & the synthesis of proteins. each message unit of an RNA molecule is depicted by 3 adjacent people in a chain, brightly colored head balloons indicate the bases, energy is represented as a "puff of smoke".

needs to be watched to be believed. note the interesting music & lyrics.

While highly entertaining it is interesting to see how much they didn't know back then (or chose to leave out). When this film was made it was sort of the "stone age" of molecular biology. A lot of the specifics were still unknown.

More complex diagram

And in reality it is orders of magnitude more complicated than even that diagram.

This is a great movie you found. I want to send it to some biochemists colleagues, but you have a spelling mistake: you wrote "animo-acid" instead of amino.
salut
