browsing statistics game world
19 January 2007

a visualization of browsing statistics "shown as easily perceptible pictures" in a computer game metaphor. the behavior of German internet users during surfing is projected in a 3D-world. different topics (e.g. computers, politics, sex, sports, environment, economy) are described by the external appearance, behavior, & the sounds of an avatar. the stream of data creates a virtual population, which thus shows a mirror image of the Net society
for instance, in one scenario, avatars feel attracted by specific topic islands to which they belong & stay close to them, so that it is possible to recognize relative proportions of online activities.
