Disney mars colonization movie

18 June 2007

disneyland_mars.jpg
an early, infographical-like, episode of Disneyland which aired on December 4, 1957. it discusses the possibility of life on other planets, especially on Mars.

the short animated film is rich with early forms of simple info-graphics, un-Disney-like animation, theatrical music & technical details, blended with innovative storytelling. the episode begins with an introduction of Walt Disney & his robot friend Garco, who provide a brief overview. the comics style from the start shifts to a more serious tone as the movie addresses the technical details of traveling to mars.

The Mars & Beyond videos are amazing. They instantly reminded me of the work of Ray and Charles Eames.

You might want to check out The Information Machine from 1958.

If you like this series, you may like its prequel, Disney's Man in Space, which I posted on both YouTube:
