Twitt3D [twitt3d.com] is one the few available approaches that tries to combine Twitter with 3D, and probably the only one which chooses for an abstract 3D representation (versus a typical 3D globe, like TwitterVision) and allows users to relatively freely navigate around.
Users you can "fly through" recent Twitter feeds, getting a birds-eye-view or zooming in to see a post close-up. One can also observe which of friends have more followers based on the spatial layout of their tweets. Personally, I was unable to navigate around in any decent or controllable way. But you can watch the video below to check out how it is supposed to work.
Which reminds me, do you already follow the infosthetics Twitter feed?

Twitter is excellent fun. Love the mirror view, in 3d. Almost like putting a mirror reflecting a mirror...

A friend wrote this in a couple of days a few months ago. It's still a bit rough, but I think it's a promising idea - would love to have it as a screensaver.
