Back in 2005, the yearly Google Zeitgeist was a simple list of facts and static line charts. In 2010, Google introduces a semi-interactive world map with augmented with an animated timeline to illustrate the historical trends of the seemingly 5 most important global themes (i.e. world cup, olympics, haiti earthquake, oil spill, ash cloud) that were subject to the most search queries during last year.

While this interface is nice and neat and all, let's hope Google's recently 'acquired' data visualization dream team will get into action quite soon.
