The [submarinecablemap.com] depicts about 188 active and planned submarine cable systems and their landing stations with a maximum upgradeable capacity of at least 5 Gbps.
The map allows selection of an individual cable route, which reveals specific information about the cable, including the cable's name, ready-for-service (RFS) date, length, owners, website, and landing points. Selecting a landing point provides a list of all submarine cables landing at that station.
Interestingly, the cable routes and the landing points were originally generated using Adobe Illustrator, which was then exported as a set of KML files using Avenza . These files were parsed through Google Maps and Google Fusion to create the visual map, to which interactive features were added. All content and software behind the map is open-source, and available .
