a dynamic data visualization tool embedded in (almost all) YouTube movies that supports the discovery of related videos. how to see it? go watch a YouTube video such as . then select the full-screen option. then click on the 2nd button on the left, at the bottom of the screen, featuring the network icon.
after news.com, digg.com, twitter.com, amazon.com & , it is terrific to see another mass-media company embrace data visualization as a new medium.
but have they done it right? does the interface inspire people to browse related videos? what could be improved?

great labs but not really ready for launch like that. The diminutive circular thumbnail is completely non descriptive and the title and description of the videos requires a click and hold (or something)
the experience was not smooth and I got my cursor stuck more than once.
But I see where they want to get, you see a map of where youstarted and where you got to. But they should really mature that before releasing it in the wild this way...
Agreed that its buggy (doesn't scroll for you, takes a while to load new links) but its also got design issues: no loading indicator, not clear what the video is about even when hovered... Circles are pretty, but videos are rectangular. I'd love a better related-videos tool there, but this is not quite usable either.
Node placement seems arbitrary. It'd be nice to see more related videos clustered closer together, so that distance becomes something of a relatedness metric. It just feels like not a lot of thought was put into it. Right now, the viz seems to be in prototype, phase 1.
I agree with the other comments, it's messy and the circles don't help.
It might be better to have the video you came from described by a few keywords and show the suggested video's around those keywords. In this way you can search into which aspect you want to continue.
The biggest problem for me is that i don't even get how the videos are related. it doesn't correspond to the "related videos" column on the traditional youtube page, nor are the related videos from the same user.
this to me seems like the obvious first step, i mean it's nice to know that the videos are related, but the usefulness of the ui pretty depends quite heavily on the fact that i have the ability to decide which relations are significant and which not, instead of taking google's word for it.
yes the interface inspire people to browse related videos and it really helpful for finding related videos in a minute.
